Rail replacement service

Disruption description
Friday, 01.08.2025, 20:00 until Saturday, 13.06.2026, 23:59

To ensure an efficient infrastructure and more punctual trains, the Hamburg - Berlin railroad line will be completely renovated from August 1, 2025 (from around 8 p.m.) until June 13, 2026 and beyond April 30, 2026.

The line between Hamburg and Berlin will be closed to train traffic during the work. This will also result in restrictions on adjacent regional transport routes in the Berlin/Brandenburg, Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania area and beyond. Some lines will no longer run along the entire route or will be rerouted. A comprehensive replacement service with buses will take you further.

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the following DB Regio Nordost lines will continue to be affected until May 14, 2026:

  • The RE1 line(Rostock - Schwerin - Hamburg) only runs in the Rostock Hbf and Bad Kleinen section, but here every hour. The RB28 line supplements the service in the Rostock Hbf - Schwerin section with two pairs of trains.
  • The RE2 line runs hourly between Bad Kleinen and Lübeck. The RE2 is operated with 4 double-decker coaches or with railcars in double traction, i.e. with significantly higher capacity than usual on the RE4. In Bad Kleinen there is an hourly connection to the RB17 (ODEG) towards Schwerin and Wismar, in Lübeck the RE2 has a connection to the RE8 line (DB Regio Nord) to/from Hamburg. This connection is particularly suitable as an alternative for passengers with reduced mobility.
  • The RE4 linewill run unchanged on the Bützow - Szczecin Glowny section. The previously communicated train service on the RE4 line between Lübeck - Schönberg as well as the replacement service Schönberg - Bad Kleinen will be canceled from 01 May - 14 May 2026 due to the extension of the RE2 line concept.

Changes from May 15 to June 13, 2026 in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on the DB Regio Nordost lines as follows:

  • The RE1 line from May 15 as planned and published between Rostock - Schwerin and Hamburg
  • Trains on the RB28 line will supplement the RE1 service on the Rostock - Bad Kleinen section. In Bad Kleinen, there will be a connection to the RB17 (ODEG) trains.
  • From 15 May, trains on the RE4 line will run as planned and published on the Lübeck - Schönberg section and SEV on the Schönberg - Bad Kleinen section. The RE4 line will be cancelled between Bad Kleinen and Teterow due to construction work. Trains will run as scheduled between Teterow and Szczecin Glowny.

Other affected lines in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern:

The RE8 (ODEG) line will be canceled from May 1 to June 13, 2026; the connection between Schwerin and Berlin will be provided by the additional RE85 (ODEG) line via Güstrow. Due to this additional traffic, the RE5 will no longer stop in Güstrow.

Detailed information on all affected lines, the replacement concept and the planned construction work as well as answers to frequently asked questions can be found under the links below.

All bus replacement services will be operated by ecoVista SEV GmbH.
